Support for Windraven

Dear Friends,
My name is Karen Smith.  I live at Isis Cove. I'm being the point person on Windraven's behalf because she is without communication and still in recovery from her losses from the recent fire that consumed her home.  Let me say that she is absorbing the outpouring of love and has been receiving copies of e-mails and phone calls forwarded to me for the time being. The following is a list that she's able to identify at this time for high priority needs.

All that remains of Windraven's home
Windraven's burnt home
After expenses, Windraven's financial resources are very minimal now. Although her home was insured, it is - as often happens in these situations - inadequate and will not completely cover her losses.  If you feel moved to send her some monetary support, please send a check (tax deductible) made out to Venus Rising with an attached note that it is for Windraven.

PLEASE DO NOT write "Windraven" on the check. WRITE "Fire Donation".
Venus Rising, P.O. Box 486, Sylva, NC 28779

Or you may contact the Venus Rising office if you would like to donate with a credit card.
Phone: 828-631-2305 or email: venusrising@shamanicbreathwork.org

Immediate Needs:
- Cash in any amount, right now for food and simple necessities (check writing info above)- Cell phone (already donated by Kansas City breathwork facilitators)
- Computer (already donated by Paul Fairchild)
- Living Accommodations: (Brad and Star Wolf have offered her a place to live while her home is being built at Isis Cove)

Long Term Needs:
- Labor on house and/or land (Mike Cooper, excavator, will bull doze her lot and carry off debris)
- Landscaping, bushes, trees
- Furniture/ furnishings
- Appliances (stove, microwave, refrigerator, vacuum)
- Linens, towels, sheets, pillows, etc.
- TV and DVD player
- Washer and dryer
- Cash contributions for home supplies
- Storage until home is replaced

- Trauma relief in the form of a getaway from the cove

As her Isis Cove soul family in residence, we are staying aware of Windraven's needs and intend to be available in every way we're able as the future unfolds.  Please don't hesitate to e-mail me directly with questions or concerns about Windraven's recovery.  As I said above, she receives copies of all correspondence.  When Windraven is able, she wants to write her own letter of response to everyone.  Thank you, again.

Blessing the Sacred Tree after the Fire

Several of Venus Rising staff and participants in our SHIP (Shamanic Healing Initiatory Process) group that began right after the fire hiked up to the Sacred Tree at the top of the Isis Cove / Dove Mountain land last Tuesday to do ceremonies of blessing, healing, gratitude and transformation.  It was a beautiful day and we are so grateful that the fire miraculously spared our sacred sites!

"Walking Through the Fires of Transformation"
by Linda Star Wolf

This is not the time of water when the floods shall come,
or the time of earth when the seeds have sprung.

This is not the time of air when new space has opened to breathe.

This is not the time of spirit when it is simply time to leave.

This is the time to let things die, to jump into the fire and not know why.

This is the time of fire, of bright, hot heat with leaping red flames licking at our feet.

When we stand before the fire do we turn and back away,
or do we face the challenges of this new day?

Can we summon up our courage and strength,
are we willing to go to any length?

Can we become spiritual warriors with heart and soul,
or will we allow our inner fires to grow cold?

These are the questions we each must ask ourselves as we begin,
for it will become without as within.

Listen closely now - do you hear the ancient call?
It is time to awaken the DNA that will rekindle us all.

It is our natural birthright to walk this alchemical path,
to cry and howl, and spiral and laugh.

Will you willingly join us as we approach the shimmering portal that lies ahead,
or resist the changes that are upon us with fear and dread?

Will you become the one you have been waiting for?
Will you listen to the voice inside yourself that you can no longer ignore?

Come set sail with us upon these fiery waves of transformation as we are joined by beings from every nation.

I implore mighty Sekhmet compassionate lioness of old, roar loudly now and ignite our souls.

This is it, this is the time when the veils finally have parted, not a moment to waste - so let us get started!

The Spirit of the Fire at Isis Cove / Dove Mountain

As many of you already know, a wildfire broke out on Dove Mountain while one of the contractors  was burning some brush on a lot that he was beginning to clear for construction. He was doing all the right things by burning the brush in a 20'x20' trench with a helper.  He had acquired the proper burning permit, as well.  When the fire broke out the fire department was called and they sent several trucks very quickly. When they thought they had it under control with only a few small fire spots smoldering they all left, except one small truck with about 6 guys who said, "This is over and we are just going to clean up and mop things up."  The wind started to blow and the sparks hit some more dry brush across the road, right below the Medicine Wheel.  The fire took off like a runaway train up the gulch. Within a matter of minutes the flames were totally out of control and Windraven's house was gone. Thank God/Goddess that Windraven was not at home but, her poor kitty was in the house. The house is totally gone and Windraven will be staying with us in one of our buildings, probably a room in the Isis Cove Retreat Center.   All of us will do whatever is needed to support Windraven.

It is nothing short of a miracle that the fire did not spread any further than it did. The fire fighters were amazing and kind to all of us. Many of our friends who live nearby in the community came out and stood with us for several hours by Bradley Branch road, which  leads up to Isis Cove from where we were all evacuated.  As we all stood there holding each other, consoling each other, praying, crying, and even laughing, we realized just how fortunate we were to have each other.  Several of us looked deeply into each others eyes for long stretches of time and said "We are all going to be alright."

I spent the whole night holding vigil down by the road mainly by myself, even though the owner of the Starlight Hotel gave us some rooms to pile into near by.  I just couldn't sleep.  I could feel Grandma Twylah prodding me to stay alert, keep my ears and eyes pricked open and to embody the Wolf Spirit who could talk to the Fire Spirit. I went into a hyper-arousal, altered state of consciousness as I sat and chanted a song to the fire for a long time.  Over and over I asked it to take what it had taken and to stop, to burn out!  There were several times I spotted a flame and looking directly at it, I shouted, "STOP!"   I swear it appeared to quickly stop burning and go out, much quicker than other flames of the same kind that I was not focusing on near by. I could feel a quickening in my body and I knew that there were many prayers flooding in through the email.

At one point, I got down on my knees with my face to the earth and prayed to the earth mother.  Mighty Isis appeared in my minds eye.  I could envision her enfolding the cove in her wings and stirring up the rains as the fire burned around the cove.  That is a lot of what has now happened. The fire miraculously burned its way around the three sacred sites,  the Earth Medicine Wheel,  the Fire Portal Circle, and right past the Blue Star Spirit Deck. Incredibly, it also spared Deb and Steve Irestone's new cabin which had only recently been placed on that same hillside.  The fire raged right past it.

The spirit of fire was a powerful lesson and one we will not soon forget.  I am sure it's larger purpose will unfold in our lives in many ways over the weeks and months to come for each of us who live at Isis Cove and others who are affiliated with all of  us in a deeper way.

In love, grace and gratitude,
Star Wolf

Fire Temple Blessed by Orbs

Guest Contributor:  Laura Wolf

As many of you have heard, we had a tremendous fire recently at Dove Mountain / Isis Cove.  The fire here has been an incredible initiation for all of us at Isis Cove, and particularly for Windraven, who completely lost her home to the fire.  I will post some of Star Wolf's writings about that night and about the ways we are working together as a community to support Windraven.  Today we received this incredible picture from Chuck Willhide, one of our Isis Cove Community members.  He took this amazing picture that shows thousands of glowing orbs that were gathered with us when we initiated and activated our Fire Temple a few nights prior to the Dove Mountain fire.  We are astounded by all of the beautiful colors and sizes of the Orbs, as though they are gathering to bless the Fire Temple with us.

As a community, we have all been processing what this fire means to each of us, to Isis Cove, and it's greater message.  We are talking about the power of Fire to ignite, to transform, to heal, to create, to destroy, to wake up, to cook, to burn, to celebrate, to let go.  We are talking about balance and consciousness.   We are doing ceremony on the land and thanking Spirit for all that the Fire spared and all that it is teaching us.  Many of us and I'm sure many of you are feeling the fires heating up on the planet at this time.  The volcano in Iceland may be another expression of the firey planetary energies at play.  I have been ignited by our Fire at Isis Cove.  It has helped me to get crystal clear about what is truly important and that is only Love and getting on with what I came here to do.  There's no time to waste and every breath I take is precious.

The both/and of being human for me this week is that I tend to want to sink back into Water after a big Fire.  I am getting to practice cultivating balance between all of my elements - to stay willing to embrace the Fires transformation by keeping my commitments to myself and my creativity, without going into workaholism and burn out.  I get to practice resting when I'm tired and nourishish myself, but not totally checking out and floating away.  I get to practice grounding my energy and staying in my body when the Fires get intense, or simply chopping wood and carrying water when I want to run away to a beach or escape into the dreamtime.  And the hardest part for me, I get to invite in Air, celebration, playfullness - and not take myself so darn seriously all the time.  Whew!  I, for one, am incredibly grateful to this Fire for what it is teaching me and awakening in me.  Blessed Be!

Star Wolf's Welcome

My journey in life has been a spiral path of wholeness that continues to move through cycles of change taking me through many symbolic death and rebirth experiences, which I refer to as “shamanic portals of transformation.” I have learned more than I ever thought possible through a process I will share with you in my future writings, called the Shamanic Breathwork™ process, and the five initiations process called S.H.I.P. Once I have made sense of the lessons on my path and discovered the bigger picture, I am ready to pass on and share both my stumblings and my leaps along the way. In my own spiritual quest, I have always appreciated most those who shared their struggles and victories in an authentic way. That will be my humble attempt within the context of this blog.

I believe that we are all indigenous to this earth. I respect all my relations, whether they be human, animal, plant, mineral, visible or invisible ones. We are all related by the great web of life and sent here from the great beyond. Everything we say and do touches all parts of this magnificent web of creation. If I treat myself or anyone else unfairly, we are all affected in some way. Fortunately, the converse is true, as well. I am not perfect. If I am honest and have humility, I can admit that I will make mistakes as I seek to further evolve my conscious awareness. I can also make living amends by striving to change my negative thoughts and behaviors, and live from a more open-hearted connection to others and to myself. I have learned over time that all the changes I seek in the outer world must begin by looking within myself first. I have also learned that it is imperative that I have the courage to be honest with myself and to look at the “shadow” side of my personality. When I have had the courage to truly know myself better, the light and the dark, I have found the inner strength to change my life and shape-shift myself into the light of my true soul’s image.

From time to time I will share different programs and events that are being offered through my non profit organization (Venus Rising Institute for Shamanic Healing Arts) in my blog, as well as photos, videos and teachings, etc. But the main purpose of this blog is to provide an outlet to share the inner musings of my shamanic spirit and journey, and to hear yours as well. I look forward to connecting with all of you who intuitively know that you, too, are a valuable part of the shamanic process of conscious co-creation and evolution on the planet at this time. We each have a role to play and a soul purpose in the drama unfolding in our world today. Together we can create a better place for all beings on earth to live and leave a powerful legacy for those who are yet to come.

I believe we will all be remembered by future generations for the choices we make during this time of huge evolutionary change. In the words of the wonderful poem, “Summer Day,” by Mary Oliver, “what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

In Love, In Service, In Gratitude,
Namaste’
